RESEARCH

Making complex systems more visible.

The core of the Digital Space Lab  —

A research space for orientation in complex situations.

The Digital Space Lab investigates how relationships, structures and knowledge environments shape what we can understand about complex economic, digital and technological systems.

The work combines network research, digital methods, systemic analysis and artificial intelligence with a broader question:

How can we remain oriented when complexity cannot simply be reduced away?

Research and client work remain distinct — but inform one another where the question and evidence justify it.

EPISTHEON

Orientation when coherent answers are not enough.

Epistheon is the epistemic architecture developed at the Digital Space Lab.

It examines the relationships between explanation, orientation, uncertainty, limits and responsibility — particularly in knowledge environments where artificial intelligence can generate convincing and coherent answers without resolving the conditions under which those answers should be trusted or acted upon.

TANGLED WEBS

Following the relationships behind the economy.

Products, brands and companies rarely exist in isolation. Behind them are production relationships, ownership structures, corporate networks and dependencies that are often difficult to see from the surface.

Tangled Webs investigates these connections and develops methods and data for making economic relationships, concentration, dependency and responsibility more visible.

ESSAYS, TALKS & PUBLICATIONS

Research beyond the Lab.

Selected work is translated into formats that make complex questions accessible beyond individual research projects.

ESSAYS & ANALYSES

Long-form writing on artificial intelligence, digital environments, networks, knowledge and orientation.

MASTERCLASSES & TALKS

Public and professional formats that translate complex systems and technological change into understandable narratives.

NETWORK & DIGITAL METHODS

Structure becomes visible through relationships.

The Digital Space Lab has worked with digital networks, web data and relational research for more than 15 years.  The methodological toolbox includes:

Social Network Analysis
Actors, relationships and structural positions.

Hyperlink & Digital Methods
Digital traces, online environments and web-based relationships.

OSINT & Data Research
Open-source information, structured research and verification.

LLM-Supported Knowledge Work
Using artificial intelligence for research, comparison, synthesis and analysis where it improves the work.

Methods are not the starting point. They are used where they help answer the actual research question.

RESEARCH & PRACTICE

Research expands the perspective. The problem determines the method.

Selected work is translated into formats that make complex questions accessible beyond individual research projects.

Digital Space Lab does not automatically transfer research frameworks or methods into client projects.

They are used only where they fit the specific question, available evidence and decision context.
